| 02/23/2010 - The British are Coming to Westbrook! |
The number-one youth soccer company in the United States, Challenger Sports, has been invited to hold one of their nationwide British Soccer training camps right here in Westbrook, ME.
Westbrook Soccer League has teamed up with Challenger Sports to host a week-long British Soccer camp for boys and girls during the week of August 23-27, 2010. The field location has yet to be determined, but it's believed that the camp will be held at Wescott Fields at the former Junior High School on Bridge Street.
The camp will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s British coaching staff flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs.
Challenger has become the largest soccer camp provider in North America by combining consistently high-quality, age-specific soccer instruction, along with equally-important elements of character, cultural, and nutritional education.
Each day the children will practice and master new individual skills and understand small group and team tactics through Challenger’s innovative camp curriculum. Campers will also scrimmage each day in the always popular "Camp World Cup"!
The Challenger coaching staff believes that teaching silky soccer skills is only a part of the process of educating young athletes. The coaches will also take time out of the busy weekly schedule to teach lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and leadership, and discuss how these core values relate to soccer, family and school.
The most popular part of each camp is the "Camp Word Cup". The coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about life, customs, and traditions of other countries. The campers are asked to make up cheers, bring flags, dress up, and learn as much as they can about the country they represent.
You do not need to be a Westbrook resident to participate. Kids from all surrounding towns are welcomed to attend. All skill levels are welcomed, too.
Westbrook Soccer League is offering British Soccer camp sessions for the following ages:
Ages 3-5: 9 am-10:30 am daily (Cost $80 total)
Ages 6-14: 9 am-12 pm daily (Cost $110 total)
Ages 8-14: 9 am-4 pm daily, with a one-hour lunch break (Cost $162 total)
Teams are also welcomed to attend and receive a week of focused instruction to prepare them for the fall season.
Each camper will receive a free camp t-shirt, camp soccer ball, and player evaluation. In addition, any child who signs up on-line at least 45 days prior to camp will receive a genuine British Soccer replica jersey (a $30 value).
The Challenger coaching staff will also provide a FREE adult clinic for coaches and parents on Wednesday, August 25, from 5:30-6:30 pm.
To sign up for the camp, either visit www.challengersports.com or contact camp coordinator Greg Post via e-mail at gpost@nlpartners.com or call/text (207) 310-8297.
When a camper registers on-line, they receive an automatically-generated receipt that features Challenger's tax ID number at the bottom. Parents can then use this number when it comes to claiming back from child care expenses through flexible spending accounts (FSA).
Challenger’s British Soccer Camps have been running in the U.S. for over 19 years. In addition to coaching youth players throughout the country, Challenger also provide year round club trainers, run European Soccer Tours, hold soccer tournaments and now manufacture and sell their own brand of soccer apparel. To find out more about Challenger Sports, visit their web site at www.challengersports.com.

| 01/24/2010 - British Soccer Camp in Windham Set for August 16-20 |
| Please find below information on the British Soccer Camp that will be held this summer at the Gambo Field Complex off River Road in Windham on August 16-20. The full-day camp runs daily, Monday-Friday, from 9 am–4 pm. The cost is $162, but you can receive $80 off your registration fee by hosting a British Soccer Coach. Last year, the Westbrook program had five players participate. They all had a tremendous time and it was a wonderful experience. Not only did they vastly improve their soccer skills, but they learned a great deal about sportsmanship, teamwork, camaraderie, and enjoying the game of soccer. They also very much enjoyed the British accents of all the coaches! Hosting a Coach at your house allows you and your kids the opportunity to learn a great deal about the Coach's family, their background and heritage, what it was like growing up in the UK, their soccer career, and what they think about this Beckham guy playing in America! Your only responsibilities are: providing a bed for them to sleep in; providing breakfast, a bag lunch, and dinner; occasionally doing laundry; and providing them with a ride to and from the field each day (this isn’t always required, as they do carpool if other coaches are staying in the same area). It's like a soccer clinic and a history class all rolled into one. In addition to a great experience, each kid also receives a soccer ball, a camp t-shirt and a British Soccer game jersey (if they sign up at least 45 days in advance). Should you have any questions, please contact Greg Post at gpost@nlpartners.com. We would love to see the Westbrook enrollment grow this year and have our program well-represented. Who knows, maybe in the future, with enough interest and support, we could host a British Soccer Camp here in Westbrook! Details and a link to the registration page are below. British Soccer Camps British Soccer Camps provide young players with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts right in the heart of their own community. Each British Soccer Camp provides players of all ages and abilities the appropriate program and level of curriculum and a wonderful cultural and educational camp experience! Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily tournament. Equally important, the Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in self-discipline, good sportsmanship and respect for others and for the game. Campers will enjoy a daily program of activities and an end-of-camp graduation party! Look at the amazing camp package that each camper receives! 1. A Free British Soccer ball 2. A Free British Soccer Camp t-shirt 3. A Free giant fold-out soccer poster 4. A personal skills evaluation 5. Plus, sign up on-line 45 days or more prior to camp and get an awesome British Soccer Game Jersey (value $39) for FREE! Host a Coach and receive up to $80 off your registration fee! The coaches of your summer camp will stay with local families in your community for the duration of the camp week. This has become one of the most popular elements of Challenger's British Soccer Camp program. Each year we receive hundreds of emails from families telling us what an incredible time they had hosting one of our coaches. In return, not only will you receive a rebate of up to $80 towards the cost of your summer soccer camp fees, but more importantly you will enjoy a unique week learning about the UK, learning about soccer and building lasting friendships with our staff.
