Dear British Soccer Campers & Parents – We are very excited that you’ll be attending our first annual Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp this week in Westbrook.  The camp will begin tomorrow, Monday, August 23, and run thru Friday, August 27.  It’ll be held on the side fields at the Westbrook Community Center (old Jr. High School), located at 426 Bridge Street and across from the Westbrook Little League Baseball Complex.

Sessions:

Full-Day (ages 8-14): 9 am-4 pm

Half-Day (ages 6-14): 9 am-12 noon

Mini Soccer (ages 3-5): 9-10:30 am

Registration:

Please plan to arrive by 8:30 am on Monday morning, August 23, for registration.  Each camper will receive a new soccer ball, so please don’t bring one of your own.

Rain:

The camp will be rain or shine.  The only time that campers will be moved indoors is if there are thunder and lightning storms, or torrential downpour. There is rain in the forecast for Monday, so please dress accordingly and bring layers.  For those that are doing the full-day camp, we recommend that you bring a change of clothes so that you can change gear during the lunch break, if needed.

What to Wear:

Cleats are highly-recommended and shinguards are a must.  Sneakers are also acceptable, if you do not have cleats.

What to Bring:

Full-day campers should bring their lunch.  All campers are encouraged to bring a water bottle clearly marked with their name, and a snack or two to enjoy during the day.  We will have a water jug on-site should your camper(s) need to refill their water bottle.

Drop-off/Pick-up:

Parents should feel free to drop their campers off any time after 8:15 am, and pick-up no later than 4:15 pm.  On Friday, players will compete in the camp “World Cup” finals, as well as receive their evaluations from the coaching staff.  More details and timing for these events will be available by mid-week, but we encourage parents to attend and be a part of the week-ending festivities.

Parents Clinic:

Parents are invited to take part in a FREE parents-only soccer clinic from 5:30-6:30 pm on Wednesday, August 25, at the Community Center fields.  Come listen and learn about the game of soccer and, if your ambitious enough, dress in workout gear and take part in the actual drills with other parents.  It’s sure to be a blast and, without a doubt, you’ll walk away with a better understanding of the game.  There is no registration necessary, just show up and participate.  Kids will not be participating in the clinic, but there is a playground beside the fields for those old enough to play unchaperoned.

Westbrook Soccer League is excited to announce a collaborative effort with the City of Westbrook's Department of Community Services to provide pick-up soccer for Westbrook residents of all ages.  Beginning Tuesday, June 8, WSL and the DCS will organize pick-up soccer sessions at the Cornelia Warren Four Season Rink on Lincoln Street (near Rivermeadow Golf Course).  The sessions will initially be weekly and take place on Tuesdays.  Kids ages 13 and under will play from 6-7 pm, and kids 14 and older will play from 7 til dusk.

01/24/2010 - British Soccer Camp in Windham Set for August 16-20
Please find below information on the British Soccer Camp that will be held this summer at the Gambo Field Complex off River Road in Windham on August 16-20. The full-day camp runs daily, Monday-Friday, from 9 am–4 pm. The cost is $162, but you can receive $80 off your registration fee by hosting a British Soccer Coach. Last year, the Westbrook program had five players participate. They all had a tremendous time and it was a wonderful experience. Not only did they vastly improve their soccer skills, but they learned a great deal about sportsmanship, teamwork, camaraderie, and enjoying the game of soccer. They also very much enjoyed the British accents of all the coaches! Hosting a Coach at your house allows you and your kids the opportunity to learn a great deal about the Coach's family, their background and heritage, what it was like growing up in the UK, their soccer career, and what they think about this Beckham guy playing in America! Your only responsibilities are: providing a bed for them to sleep in; providing breakfast, a bag lunch, and dinner; occasionally doing laundry; and providing them with a ride to and from the field each day (this isn’t always required, as they do carpool if other coaches are staying in the same area). It's like a soccer clinic and a history class all rolled into one. In addition to a great experience, each kid also receives a soccer ball, a camp t-shirt and a British Soccer game jersey (if they sign up at least 45 days in advance). Should you have any questions, please contact Greg Post at gpost@nlpartners.com. We would love to see the Westbrook enrollment grow this year and have our program well-represented. Who knows, maybe in the future, with enough interest and support, we could host a British Soccer Camp here in Westbrook! Details and a link to the registration page are below. British Soccer Camps British Soccer Camps provide young players with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts right in the heart of their own community. Each British Soccer Camp provides players of all ages and abilities the appropriate program and level of curriculum and a wonderful cultural and educational camp experience! Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily tournament. Equally important, the Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in self-discipline, good sportsmanship and respect for others and for the game. Campers will enjoy a daily program of activities and an end-of-camp graduation party! Look at the amazing camp package that each camper receives! 1. A Free British Soccer ball 2. A Free British Soccer Camp t-shirt 3. A Free giant fold-out soccer poster 4. A personal skills evaluation 5. Plus, sign up on-line 45 days or more prior to camp and get an awesome British Soccer Game Jersey (value $39) for FREE! Host a Coach and receive up to $80 off your registration fee! The coaches of your summer camp will stay with local families in your community for the duration of the camp week. This has become one of the most popular elements of Challenger's British Soccer Camp program. Each year we receive hundreds of emails from families telling us what an incredible time they had hosting one of our coaches. In return, not only will you receive a rebate of up to $80 towards the cost of your summer soccer camp fees, but more importantly you will enjoy a unique week learning about the UK, learning about soccer and building lasting friendships with our staff.
